Meat Hygiene Inspector

Reports to Senior Meat Hygiene Inspector
To contribute to the achievement of the Agencys organisational aims of cost effectiveness, consistency and equity by providing an efficient meat hygiene and inspection service to industry and by enforcing the relevant legislation.
1 Carry out,in accordance with the regulations, post mortem inspections of all carcases presented, including the health marking of carcases and offal as instructed by the plant OVS / Senior Meat Hygiene Inspector.
2 Ensure that there is 100% compliance with SRM legislation and procedures.
3 Ensure that legislation and procedures in relation to various schemes, eg: OTM, cull calf, are strictly observed.
4 Assist the official veterinary surgeon in ante mortem inspections ensuring that all aspects of animal welfare legislation are met at all times.
5 Ensure, as part of the meat hygiene and inspection team, that the necessary standard of hygiene, certification and auditing practices are observed throughout the production process, reporting as necessary to the plant OVS / Senior Meat Hygiene Inspector.
6 Carry out plant hygiene inspections as directed by the plant OVS/ Senior Meat Hygiene Inspector with the aim of maintaining and improving hygiene standards.
7 Ensure that carcase meat and offal rejected as unfit is removed, stored and disposed of in accordance with the relevant legislation and that records of rejections and disposals are maintained.
8 Carry out duties under the Fresh Meat (Beef Controls) regulations as necessary.
9 Carry out duties under the Cattle Identification Regulations as necessary.
10 Collect samples for veterinary residues and animal health purposes.
11 Ensure personal hygiene standards at all times.
12 In the absence of plant OVS / Senior Meat Hygiene Inspector ensure the set procedures are followed and standards maintained.
13 Assist with the recording of data and the collection of any other operational information including time recording paperwork, required by the plant OVS / Senior Meat Hygiene Inspector.
14 Assist in the supervision and instruction of MHS staff and others as appropriate.
15 Report to plant OVS / Senior Meat Hygiene Inspector any matters affecting the efficiency or function of the MHS that is considered appropriate.
16 Undertake duties fully in accordance with MHS Health & Safety Policy; report all accidents and potential hazards in accordance with MHS Health & Safety Policy to plant OVS / Senior Meat Hygiene Inspector / ARM.
17 Complete all relevant paperwork promptly and accurately.
18 When required, to act as deputy in absence of SMHI.
19 Management and supervision of Poultry Inspection Assistants.
20 Meet all standards laid down in the Customer Service Statement.
21 Maintain confidentiality of internal MHS communications and commercially sensitive information and practices.
22 Observe MHS equal opportunities policies and procedures with regard to all aspects of employment.
23 Identify training needs and ensure appropriate uptake of approved available training opportunities, including CPD (on a voluntary basis) to achieve personal and professional development in line with business objectives.
24 Maintain high standards of professional integrity, personal motivation and standards and work closely with and support others in the meat hygiene and inspection team.
25 Any other duties as required by the Senior Meat Inspector or plant OVS.
